Information on the symbolism and Hel herself!!

☼ Hel, in Norse mythology, originally the name of the world of the dead; it later came to mean the goddess of death. Hel was one of the children of the trickster god Loki, and her kingdom was said to lie downward and northward. It was called Niflheim, or the World of Darkness, and appears to have been divided into several sections, one of which was Náströnd, the shore of bodies. There stood a castle facing north; it was filled with the venom of serpents, in which {Bad people} suffered torment, while the dragon Nidhogg sucked the crimson from their bodies. Mention is made in an early poem of the nine worlds of Niflheim. It was said that those who fell in battle did not go to Hel but to the god Odin, in Valhalla, the hall of the slain.

☼ The symbolism of the side of the face being a skull (artistically formed by me). Hel is often depicted as having a dual nature. Her face and upper body are fair and beautiful, while her lower body is decaying or skeletal. While other depictions state half of her face was fair and beautiful while the other was skeletal.

☼ The lines underneath the one eye is Hel's name written out in Runes, which is the Germanic alphabet or Runic alphabet. Runes are also used for divination and as a means of contacting other planes of existence {Like tarot cards, and pendulums}.

☼ Color symbolism is also a thing in Norse mythology. in this makeup I have the colors that are associated with the Goddess Hel. Black, new beginning (as night and winter herald the birth of day and summer), all potential, the root of all things, knowledge of hidden things, concealment, and the container of light. White, the total expression of light as the sun of all color's totality, purity, perfection, nobility, the disk of the sun.
